The hours, in short

From 10 to 12 and from 17 to 19, seven days a week, for the whole prognosis. They apply to both private and public sector employees.

For public employees the hours used to be 9 to 13 and 15 to 18. The Lazio Regional Administrative Court, in ruling no. 16305 of 3 November 2023, struck down those hours in Ministerial Decree 206/2017, citing the need to align with the private sector. Since INPS message no. 4640 of 22 December 2023, checks on public employees take place in the same hours as for private ones.

Your home address during sick leave

The doctor writes on the certificate the address where you can be found: check that it is complete and that your name is on the doorbell.

If you change address during sick leave, as a private sector employee you notify INPS in advance through its online service and your employer straight away. As a public sector employee you tell your employer straight away and inform INPS through the online service. The service is not meant for hospital stays and, for public employees, not for short absences such as visits or treatments either.

If the doctor does not find you at home

You will find a notice asking you to attend a visit at an INPS clinic on a given date. If you are back at work by then you don't need to go, but you must tell INPS. Either way, the absence must be justified; public employees hand non-medical documents to their own employer.

Accidents at work

INPS does not carry out sick leave checks for accidents at work or occupational diseases, which fall under INAIL.

What are the visita fiscale hours in 2026?

From 10 to 12 and from 17 to 19, every day, for private and public sector employees. These are the hours in the INPS guide updated in March 2024 and, for the public sector, in INPS message no. 4640 of 22 December 2023.

Can the check happen on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday?

Yes. The hours apply every day of the prognosis, including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Are the hours different for public sector employees?

Not since 22 December 2023. They used to be 9 to 13 and 15 to 18. After ruling no. 16305 of 3 November 2023 of the Lazio Regional Administrative Court, INPS message no. 4640 applies the 10-12 and 17-19 hours to public employees too. Exemptions and the rules for going out still differ.

Who is exempt from being at home?

People with serious illnesses requiring life-saving treatment and people with conditions linked to a recognised disability of at least 67%. Public employees are also exempt for a service-related cause in the first three categories of Table A or in Table E of Presidential Decree 834/1981. The doctor flags the exemption on the certificate.

Can I go out for a medical visit?

Yes, if the visit or test cannot be done at other times. As a private sector employee, keep the paperwork. As a public sector employee, tell your employer first, who informs INPS.

Do you store the dates I enter?

No. The calendar is worked out in your browser: dates and sector never reach us or anyone else.
